Visa released its Fall 2025 Semiannual Threat Report, revealing five forces that are reshaping the global payment security landscape: the industrialization of fraud, monetization guidelines, authenticity crisis, control erosion, and third-party vulnerability gaps.
Amazon has maintained its position as the US e-commerce platform with the lowest prices for nine consecutive years, averaging 14% lower.
Recently, Profitero+ released the “2025 E-commerce Platform Price War Report”. Based on data from 12 weeks from July to September 2025, after comparing more than 20 platforms, Amazon topped the list of “lowest price platform” for the ninth year with an average price advantage of 14%.
Walmart ranked second, with its price difference with Amazon narrowing to 4%; Chewy pet supplies were only 1% higher. CVS and Walgreens had a price difference of 63%-66% in the vitamin category, while Amazon’s advantage in the toy category expanded to 13%.
The report points out that with tariff uncertainty, consumers are becoming more price-sensitive, giving low-price platforms a greater advantage.
Amazon’s new advertising format officially launched
Amazon has officially launched Sponsored Product Video Ads (SPVs). Advertisers can upload 1-5 product feature videos with descriptions to their existing SP campaigns, and shoppers will see up to 3 related video thumbnails.
This feature supports bid adjustments for video ad placements. Early testing showed that its click-through rate (CTR) increased by 9% compared to ads without video, and the CTR for shoppers who watched for more than 5 seconds surged by 8 times. Launching just in time for the Black Friday peak season, it provides sellers with a new, efficient promotional tool to help boost exposure and conversions.

With the holiday season approaching, Walmart launched “WhoKnewVille,” an immersive shopping experience inspired by Dr. Seuss, reimagining holiday marketing by combining virtual environments with physical product displays. Built on consumer behavior analytics, the project is implemented in the virtual shopping space Walmart Realm, and its accompanying advertisements have garnered over 9 million views on YouTube.
As a core part of its Black Friday promotions, Walmart will host two online-offline integrated sales events, offering discounts of up to 60% on top brands and thousands of items priced below $20. Walmart+ members can participate in advance.
Shopee Vietnam adjusts customs fee collection method, implementing separate itemized charges starting in December.
Shopee Vietnam announced that it will adjust the customs fee collection method starting from December 1, 2025. The original method of collecting cross-border logistics costs (hidden price) through the SLS logistics channel will be changed to collecting them separately, and the SLS logistics fee rate will be adjusted accordingly.
This adjustment is based on the requirements of the Vietnamese Ministry of Finance’s Notice 86/2025/TT-BTC issued in August, which stipulates that all cross-border direct mail parcels imported into Vietnam must pay customs fees in accordance with the law. Shopee has implemented the collection and payment on behalf of customers by adjusting the hidden price since October 12.

Rakuten Market launches AI-powered discovery-based recommendations, covering 500 million products.
Recently, Rakuten Market App officially launched its self-developed AI “discovery-based recommendation” feature. This feature leverages consumption data from over 100 million Rakuten IDs and more than 70 services to analyze user purchase, browsing, and favorite records, filtering personalized content from over 500 million products across 50,000+ stores on the platform.
Users can browse through the “Discover” page under the “Explore” tab on the homepage, while sellers gain new exposure channels outside of search. This move continues the “shopping is entertainment” concept, helping to accurately reach potential consumers, and Rakuten will continue to strengthen the platform’s intelligent services.

The UK plans to remove tariff exemptions for goods under £135.
The UK Treasury will soon propose in its annual budget to remove import duty exemptions for goods priced below £135 per item, and will simultaneously launch a public consultation. This policy is expected to generate £500 million (approximately $655 million) in revenue annually for the UK, aiming to ensure market fairness, improve product safety, and have a moderate impact on consumers.
This move aligns with the US’s removal of tax exemptions on goods under $800 in August and the EU’s push to remove the tax exemption threshold for goods under €150, indicating that major global economies are tightening tax regulations on cross-border e-commerce.
In Southeast Asia, only 16% of online shoppers use AI to make purchasing decisions.
According to a recent research report jointly released by Cube and Lazada, only 16% of online shoppers in Southeast Asia use artificial intelligence to assist in shopping decisions, while 66% of consumers only use AI tools for product recommendation searches.
Research indicates that 78% of consumers use generative AI to compare products, but their final purchasing decisions are still primarily driven by interpersonal trust, with 40% of consumers consulting with friends and family and 37% referring to user reviews.
The Rise of Fast Commerce and Online Fashion in India
A recent online survey by Bank of America reveals the evolving purchasing preferences of India’s middle-class digital consumers, showing strong demand in the areas of fast commerce, online fashion, and digital payments.
Blinkit leads the fast commerce market with a 31% preference rate, followed by Swiggy Instamart (19%) and Flipkart (14%). Myntra dominates the online fashion sector with a commanding 57% preference, while Nykaa Fashion holds a solid second place with 27%. In the fintech sector, Google Pay leads by a wide margin with a 45% usage rate.
